Still

1/16/11

Still

When the Sun is bright
I still think of the moon
Every day of my life
I still think of you
When the night is cold
I still reach for the dream
That one day I will hold
What I lost in between
These hands of time
That go on and on
The melody of your heart
In every silent song
That I hear whispered
On silver rays of light
I still think of the moon
When the Sun is bright.

Still Here

8/25/10

Still Here

When followed by doubt's shadow
Or shrouded in fear
I overcome the ramparts, for
I know you are still here
When my world appears hollow
And I fill it with tears
Seemingly apart
I know you are still here
When I grasp too long on sorrow
I sometimes forget where
Then you remind me and say--
"Look inside you my dear."

One In A Billion

1/16/10

One In A Billion

First Verse:
They don't make angels everyday
God broke the mold when he made you
My heart aches every time you sang
Your voice is a perfect dream come true
Your style, so fly
The whole world knows you were one of a kind
My heart will wait til once again I am by your side

Chorus:
Your love is a one in a billion love
It goes on
Your love is a one in a billion love
It goes on

Second Verse:
More than a woman but still my baby girl
You rocked more than a boat you rocked the whole wide world
I take a journey to the past everyday
I remember how we used to laugh and play
At your best you are love
The highest most exalted one
You live up to your name
You are my one in a billion lady

Chorus:
Your love is a one in a billion love
It goes on
Your love is a one in a billion love
It goes on

magic becomes real

8/25/09

magic becomes real

something precious is lost
suddenly disappears
magic won't bring it back
no matter how dear

a rabbit in a hat
a wand and coin toss
meaningless now --
a soaring albatross

faith over the bow
as I drift out to sea
is that the banshee
singing softly to me?

no -- too tranquil a tone
performed angelically --
just a dream?
does the lost return to me?

the melody of the song
explains she never left:
"dreams that we share
cannot be touched by death"

"so lament not these trails
of right and wrong
the last breath is the first
by your side all along"

Happy Birthday Baby Girl

1/16/08

Happy Birthday Baby Girl

Although a wish for candles that illuminate your day of birth,
A sweet cake with writing and myriad gifts can't compare in worth,
To your presence that we must go on without,
With innumerable questions of what our lives are now about.
The answer lies in moments of laughter and joy,
That we shared from the first time we shared a toy.
From the first time I wrote and the first time you sang,
When we ran around the house pretending to be a cartoon gang,
The memories live on in my mind and heart,
In the dreams in which you visit me, alone in the dark.
You shared your light with the entire world,
One candle, one flame that burns forever...

Happy Birthday, Baby Girl.

Forever Young

Forever Young

Like the journey of the rose,
From bud to blossom,
Beauty is your entire existence.
It is the life you chose
From mountain's peak to valley's bottom,
You fashioned a dream with persistence.
Your strength, like a falling feather,
Winds against you only kept you afloat
Over trials and tribulations.
We are still together,
For you will never wither or fade.
In my dream, a perfect flower
Whose fragrance, a melody
That will never die.
The truest beauty in every eye,
Never changing under the light of the sun.
My angelic princess,
Forever young.

Poem

'06

In the stream of all things

In the stream of all things,
we shall float along quietly,
occasionally gazing on the banks of our past.
Sweet memories become fallen leaves that crackle beneath our feet
as we walk and stir the wilderness that sleeps within us.
We will cut down those trees and build a place to shelter our fear.
Nevertheless we won't let the fire we stoke
burn away the memory of our first glance;
the thought of chance -- a notion that we are still free.

Wisdom

(Dedicated 2006)

Wisdom

I am old, very old. My power and strength comes with the passing of many years through which man learns and understands principles and philosophies never before comprehensible. I am above intelligence. The goal of all education. I am like a king, with a crown, shimmering with depth and virtue. I sit on the throne of eternity, for none is worthy to be my predecessor. I am not easy to grasp. Some may ride my coat tails, others may follow close behind, but to walk arm and arm, side by side with me is like becoming one with the universe. I can often be overlooked. Discarded by a surplus of young minds who can mistake me for foolish thoughts and boring lectures. Disrespected by a constantly progressing world, that has lost its reverence for me.

If only the entire world as a whole could understand my power. I could erase poverty, disease, war, and many other plagues of this blue sphere of confusion we call earth, as if they were stray pencil marks on a piece of paper. I am the fire that gave Dr. Martin Luther King the ability to make the many thunderous speeches that captivated the minds of the world. But I am also the gentle dove that gave Dr. King the insight to make his greatest impact on hatred and racism by way of peace and not war. I am the hand that guided Mandela through the Hell of Apartheid. I am the arms that embraced him and gave him the courage and patience to continue to fight for equality in South Africa after he spent twenty seven (27) years in prison. It is sad to say that I am obscure in the eyes of many and lucid in the eyes of few. But all I can hope for is that my seed be planted in the minds of every body and soul possible, so that it may grow into an ivory tower of beauty, love, power and peace!!
